Introduction

Knovva Model G20 Virtual Summit launched on 2020.  Due to pandemic, a lot of onsite events have to be cancelled, and global traveling had facing dramatic challenge. Therefore, Knovva start to put forward a completely online experience of model G20 summit. All the role selection and online learning activities are fulfilled by Knovva App.

Model G20 starter kit is an optional online learning course for model G20 summit participants. Before the 6-day simulation summit start, it’s opened to everyone. Reading through the articles and watching the orientation videos will give students a better understand of Model G2O topics, ways of communication and debate, knowledge of the world.

Problem

  • The content of starter kit usually includes long articles, and mess with bundles of videos, a lot of student tend to skip the starter kit, which gave them some hard time to begin when the summit opens.

  • New students don’t understand the procedure of the Summit, which may easy to get lost in the middle of the event.

  • Students don’t know where to find the summit related resources (downloadable contents, interview and highlight videos from our speakers).

Goal

  • Increase the interactive experience of the learning process. Break the long and boring reading experience into small and interacted sections.

  • Have clear catalog and menu for students to look up what they need.

  • Provide a clear live time schedule for students to check out what’s happening and what’s next.

Challenge

The platform has been built already, in order to avoid the complexity of the website and app development, new implement needs to adapt some of the old functions meanwhile solve all the exist problems.

Users

there are two type of users in this summit activity: New students and alumnis who already participate in former summits and return as delegates (event assistant/ stuff). These two types of users have different contents in their starter kit.

Alumni Students

They're participant of past summits and familiar with the summit process, but come back for their interested topics and serve as event assistant, providing suggestions and feedback.

The customer survey from past summits provides some initial knowledge of users.  Here are some  founds:

  1. Reading are too long and boring, it’s hard for them to retrieve reading if they left in the middle.

  2. It’s hard to remember the roles and names of their teammates.

Primary Needs

  • Shorter and more retrievable reading and video watching process.

  • Clear organized list of roles and names within a team.

  • Alumni users need to access different contents from new enroll users in starter kit.

  • Live time schedule to tell them the ongoing events and future events.

  • Team role list which is simple and easy to edit and manage.

  • Chat function to allow talking between teammates.

User Flows

Mapping out the two user flows helped define the design scope and found out the most efficient path for users to achieve their goals.

Alumni users: Read the starter kit and help form a group of new users, support and make suggestions on the new user’s proposals.

New students: Read the starter kit and enter a group, select the role in this summit, attend round table meetings and ministerial meetings, then work on a country proposal with teammates.
